Of changing the Constitution and Ferraris
Well, here we go again!
It is almost 2010, and the fairytale or nightmare that’s in Malacañang is about to end.
No happily ever after ending here, only that most of my country men’s belts needs an additional hole for tightening.
The perceived changing of the Constitution, as alleged will only serve those who are in power, with the hope of clinging on to their seats until the Second Coming of Christ.
Their backer, on the other hand, would howl to the moon, echoing that a new Constitution would make our lives brighter, future better and our tummy fuller.
I am not much of a Constitutionalist. My undergrad was not Political Science. Instead it was about engines, machines, flaps, and as to why those things fly. Such is my discipline, so I tend to look at the world in that scenario.
And in my world, a person who does not know how to drive a jeepney, will never be better if he gets his hand on a Ferrari. In short, tools and machines are useful if the person knows how to use them, and not the other way around.
So we will not be better off with the new Constitution is the ones running the engine will be the same blokes, who does not even know how to make heads or tail of the current one.
It is not the Constitution that needs a tune-up. It’s the persons running this miserable government that needs to be overhauled and replaced.
